"acpi_tz0: _TMP value is absurd ignored (-269.7C)"

The pfSense firewall is reporting "acpi_tz0: _TMP value is absurd ignored (-269.7C)." How do I fix this problem?

The error message: "acpi_tz0: _TMP value is absurd ignored (-269.7C)", shows up and clutters the console starting from pfSense version 1.2.1. It is harmless. Current releases of FreeBSD chooses not to ignore some of the ACPI mis-implementation and reports them as such.

There are two ways to stop the error messages:

  1. Temprorarily. Add "hw.acpi.thermal.polling_rate=0" to "/etc/sysctl.conf" and reboot. This work-around has to be implemented every time the system is upgraded to a newer version of pfSense.
  2. Permanent. Updating the BIOS. Please contact technical support for further details.
